Salary Range: $15.00 - $15.00 Hourly

Reports To: Birthday Supervisor and Recreation Manager

Essential Functions

The Birthday Party Helper is responsible for assisting in set up for birthday parties, leading games, keeping children entertained, and cleaning up after the party.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the park district’s policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner.
• Arrive 30 minutes before the party to assist with set-up.
• Greet the children and parents, engage children in activities.
• Clean all items used and put them away after the party.
• Ensure facilities and supplies are not damaged or lost during a party.
• Dispose of all garbage and place bags in the gray bin of the storage area.
• Participate in staff and training meetings.
• Notify supervisor when supplies are needed.
• Perform other duties and functions as assigned.

Risk Management

• Actively support and enforce the safety program instituted by the Park District.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all general agency and department-specific safety rules.
• Attend required safety program and in‑service education meetings as directed.
• Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to the supervisor.
• Enforce safety disciplinary policies and procedures.
• Use protective gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to pathogens.
• Ensure all equipment and rooms used are free from safety hazards.
• Obey the practical and safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program of the River Trails Park District.

Required Qualifications

• At least enrolled in high school.
• Ability to work well with children and adults; creative and flexible.

Recommended Qualifications

• Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 3 months of employment.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Experience working with children.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• External: Patrons of River Trails Park District, residents of Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights.
