Job summary

City of West St. Paul invites applicants for a seasonal Zamboni Driver at the West St. Paul Ice Arena and Sports Dome. You will perform ice resurfacing, turf maintenance, janitorial duties, and general facility operations while delivering excellent customer service during evenings, nights, weekends, and some holidays.

Responsibilities include enforcing rules, handling rentals, cash procedures, and maintaining equipment logs. Requires 18+, valid driver's license, and flexible schedule.

Join our Team! Help keep West St Paul's recreation facilities safe, welcoming, and ready for our community.

The Zamboni Driver is a seasonal position responsible for performing tasks associated with maintenance, operations, and customer service at the West St. Paul Ice Arena and Sports Dome. This position performs routine maintenance, customer service, cash handling, facility monitoring, ice resurfacing and/or turf maintenance, janitorial duties on the grounds and facility, and other duties as are apparent or assigned. This job also covers the alternate position of Recreation Facilities Maintenance Attendant.

This position can work year around with designated 30-day breaks. Peak facility times will be mid-October through April. Primary hours will be evenings, nights, and weekends, including some daytime and holiday hours.

• Enforces facility rules and regulations.
• Provides excellent customer service to all users, attendees, and city staff.
• Directs phone calls, records rental inquiry information, and submits to full-time technicians.
• Perform cash handling and nightly reporting procedures.
• Operates ice resurfacers (Zamboni), UTVs, turf maintenance attachments, and other related maintenance equipment for the maintenance of the grounds and facilities.

• Maintains proper documentation for all accidents and incidents.
• Utilizes recreation software to track use during designated shifts and facility specific software to track ice and/or dome conditions.
• Maintains facility cleanliness, which includes, but is not limited to; mopping, sweeping, trash and recycling removal, restroom and locker room (arena) sanitation, maintaining equipment logs, and snow/ice removals from public walkways and driveways, entrances, and emergency exits.
• Inform Recreation Facilities Maintenance Supervisors and Technicians of issues affecting the operations of the recreation facilities.
• Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as are apparent or assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• 18 years of age or older.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class D driver’s license with no revocations or suspensions for the past three years.
• Customer service experience.
• Has a schedule that allows for flexibility, including working days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience operating an ice resurfacer.
• Experience working with the public.
• Cash handling experience.

• Using tools and equipment in a recreation facilities environment including, but not limited to hand tools, power tools, mechanic tools, ice resurfacer, UTV, sound equipment, computers, telephone, printer/copier, cash register, and calculators.
• Ability to identify and distinguish specific noise signatures such as refrigeration, air handling, ice resurfacer, and UTV equipment to detect faults, monitor operation, or respond to emergencies.
• Ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, tools, and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments.
• Work well independently and in teams.
• Interacts with the community to provide a safe and funexperience.
• Ability to perform light to heavy physical labor including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials ranging from 20-50 pounds.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors and be exposed to weather extremes such as wind, sun, cold, and ice.
• Ability to work around power equipment (compressors, pumps, etc.) and exposure to dust and noise.
• Ability to traverse uneven, slippery, and snow/ice packed terrain when necessary.Ability to make difficult decisions in a timely, safe, and customer-oriented manner.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
