Job summary

CPC Education and Career Services seeks a Youth Worker for after-school programs in New York City. Under supervision of the Program Director, you will assist in planning and delivering engaging activities for children aged 5–12, including STEM and literacy initiatives, while maintaining safety and supportive environments.

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with children ages 5 to 12 years old in a structured educational, recreational, or youth development setting.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or willingness to complete this training within 6 months of hire is required.
  • Knowledge of the principles of positive youth development.
  • Strong social and emotional maturity and behavioral management skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in Arabic/Chinese/Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Group Leaders in planning and delivering engaging academic, enrichment, and recreational activities aligned with DYCD goals.
  • Support Group Leaders and the Education Specialist in evaluating the effectiveness of program activities and events.
  • Tutor and provide academic assistance to participants as needed.
  • Ensure all activities are age-appropriate, safe, and supportive of children’s development.
  • Maintain active supervision of children to promote safety and positive behavior.
  • Communicate regularly and maintain positive relationships with school principals, staff, afterschool personnel, families, and CPC colleagues.

ECS programs equip clients with essential skills and experiences today so that they are empowered to take the next step tomorrow.COMPASS Elementary: Department of Youth & Community Development/Comprehensive After School System (DYCD/COMPASS) provides youth after school services to school-age children ages 5-12 years old. COMPASS seeks to promote positive youth development, foster social and emotional skills, and encourage youth leadership through engaging activities that incorporate hands-on learning in safe, welcoming environments. The program includes academic support, physical exercise, and enrichment age-appropriate activities such as literacy or STEM to enhance the academic, social, and physical development of children during the after-school hours and on certain school holidays.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the supervision of the Program Director, the Youth Worker will:Assist Group Leaders in planning and delivering engaging academic, enrichment, and recreational activities aligned with DYCD goals, including STEM and literacy initiatives.Support Group Leaders and the Education Specialist in evaluating the effectiveness of program activities and events.Tutor and provide academic assistance to participants as needed.Ensure all activities are age-appropriate, safe, and supportive of children’s development.Maintain active supervision of children to promote safety and positive behaviorCommunicate regularly and maintain positive relationships with school principals, staff, afterschool personnel, families, and CPC colleagues.Model respectful and professional relationship-building in all interactions with children, parents, staff, and school management.Maintain an organized classroom and take responsibility for upkeep/appearance of the classroom and for proper maintenance of educational and recreational equipment/materials.Adhere to all program policies, procedures, and regulations established by DOHMH, DYCD, and CPC.Participate in professional development and training opportunities to enhance skills and support career growth.Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
