Job summary

Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) in New York City seeks a Group Leader for the COMPASS Elementary after-school program. The role centers on developing engaging lesson plans and facilitating activities that advance literacy, math, science, and cultural enrichment for school-age children 5-12 years old.

Under supervision, you will supervise students, document incidents, and collaborate with teachers and CPC leadership.

Qualifications

• Must have at least two years of direct experience working with children under 13 years old and knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Ability to implement lesson plans and lead structured educational, recreational, and cultural activities for youth.
• Current CPR/first aid/AED certification or willingness to complete this training within 6 months of hire.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to Common Core Standards promoting academic, recreational, and social-emotional learning.
• Facilitate daily activities in core subjects and enrichment areas.
• Maintain active supervision to ensure a safe and supportive environment; address behavioral and medical needs appropriately.
• Document attendance, behavior incidents, and classroom observations per CPC policies.
• Foster a respectful, inclusive classroom culture reflecting CPC values; collaborate with staff and CPC leadership.
• Coordinate with site peers, school staff, and CPC leadership to deliver the program.
• Keep classrooms organized, stocked with necessary materials; ensure safety and readiness.
• Attend trainings and meetings; fulfill other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

COMPASS seeks to promote positive youth development, foster social and emotional skills, and encourage youth leadership through engaging activities that incorporate hands-on learning in safe, welcoming environments.
