Job summary

Town of East Longmeadow Recreation Department seeks a part-time Volleyball Coordinator to lead the youth volleyball curriculum for grades 3–5 and 6–8. You will plan and run practices, demonstrate skills, and foster a positive, inclusive environment.

The role requires regular practices Tue, Thu, and three Saturdays, with strong communication to families and a commitment to equal playing time for all participants.

General Description

Responsible for leading the overall curriculum and instruction of the sport of volleyball for youth participants in grades 3–5 and grades 6–8. This role includes planning and leading all practices, providing instruction and demonstrations of fundamental volleyball skills, and ensuring a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.

Attend all scheduled practices and scrimmages, coordinate with parents throughout the season via phone, email, and text, and ensure that all players are introduced to the basic fundamentals of volleyball. The Volleyball Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring that all participants receive equal playing time and opportunities to develop their skills.

Primary Essential Functions

• Lead and organize all volleyball practices and scrimmages
• Teach and demonstrate fundamental volleyball skills and rules
• Develop and implement age-appropriate practice plans
• Communicate regularly with parents and guardians
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive learning environment
• Ensure equal playing time for all participants

Knowledge, Ability, and Skills

• Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, swimming, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.

Experience and Training

• Clear and effective communication skills
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Prior volleyball playing or coaching experience preferred
• Ability to travel to and attend all scheduled practices and scrimmages
• Ability to work well with youth participants
