Job summary

New Life Centers of Chicagoland NFP in Chicago, IL seeks a Street Outreach Mentor to join the Neighborhood Safety Team. This full-time, in-person position focuses on engaging high-risk youth, mediating conflicts, and linking participants to services and opportunities.

The role requires building trust in Little Village, Pilsen, and Brighton Park, maintaining a 10–15 caseload, and collaborating with case-managers, schools, and partners. Weekend and on-call shifts are possible.

Qualifications

• Must become a Certified Mandated Reporter. Training provided.
• Must pass a background check, must not have any pending cases.
• Must pass a Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System background check.
• Must pass a National Sex Offender Registry background check.
• Must have a working phone and phone number.
• One year experience working in the human services field with at-risk youth.
• Cross-cultural competency and knowledge of local communities.
• Emotional maturity, good judgment and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Works with outreach colleagues and supervisor to identify potential participants who are the highest risk individuals, and the people who know them.
• Maintains a caseload of 10-15 high-risk participants.
• Participants and family range in age, participants primarily between 14-24.
• Develops and maintains supportive relationships with participant caseload.
• Intervenes in circumstances where violence is likely and mediates conflicts.
• Communicates all relevant information to team members and supervisors instantly.
• Delivers one-to-one support sessions and facilitates circles with participants to support prosocial behaviors.
• Provides linkages to case-managers for job programs, GED, drug treatment, mentoring, etc.
• Provides client accompaniment to court, social services, etc.
• Participates in organizing responses to shootings and increases visibility when shootings occur.
• Investigates causes of shootings to mediate and prevent retaliation.
• Identifies and diffuses hot spots for shootings and documents efforts.
• Develops ongoing strategy to respond to conflicts and violence with the team.
• Engages the community to build relationships with youth, residents, and organizations.
• Collaborates with referring partners to meet goals and maintain stakeholder relations.
• Maintains budget accuracy and participates in required evaluations and trainings.
