Job summary

Denver Children's Home in Denver, CO is hiring Direct Care Counselors to provide professional treatment and care to adolescent clients in a residential setting, with a focus on trauma-informed care, a safe environment, and close supervision.

The role includes supervising youth, intervening in crises, assisting with academics, documenting, and coordinating with staff on shift changes; schedule is Monday-Friday 6am-3:30pm.

Qualifications

• A four year degree from an accredited college or university is required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Ability to pass physical examination.
• Ability to pass Colorado Bureau of Investigation background checks.
• Ability to pass FBI background check.
• Ability to gain TRAILS clearance.
• First Aid and CPR certification must be obtained.
• Preferred: clean Motor Vehicle Record and qualified driver per policy.

Responsibilities

• Actively supervise and interact with youth according to structured daily schedule.
• Demonstrate professional boundaries and ensure basic needs are met daily.
• Facilitate activities and intervene with youth in crisis using approved strategies.
• Model conflict resolution and implement interventions from the treatment team.
• Provide academic assistance and participate in team meetings.
• Complete required documentation and assist with training new staff.
• Transport clients on a limited basis.

The Counselor position is responsible for providing professional treatment and care to our clients. The position provides Trauma Informed quality youth care, a safe environment, and close intensive supervision of adolescent clients in a residential treatment setting.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Actively supervise and interact with youth in activities according to structured daily schedule.
• Demonstrate professional boundaries.
• Ensure basic needs of youth are being met daily, including physical and emotional.
• Facilitate activities as needed.
• Intervene with youth in milieu as needed to encourage healthy, adaptive behavior.
• Intervene in crisis utilizing approved crisis intervention strategies.
• Model and teach conflict resolution to youth.
• Implement interventions developed by treatment team/caseload.
• Provide academic assistance to residents as needed.
• Attend and participate in team meetings.
• Assist with orienting/training new staff as needed.
• Communicate and coordinate with all appropriate staff during shift changes.
• Complete required documentation.
• Ensure environment is clean and well maintained.
• Transport clients as needed on limited basis.

SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday between the hours of 6am-3:30pm

Education and/or Experience

• A four year degree from an accredited college or university required
• Must be at least 21 years of age

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to pass a physical examination.
• Ability to pass background check with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
• Ability to pass background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
• Ability to gain clearance through the Colorado Central Registry of Child Abuse and Neglect (TRAILS).
• Have or be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification as provided.
• Preferred: have a clean Motor Vehicle Record and be a Qualified Driver as defined by the DCH Automobile Insurance Policy.
