Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Sports Instructor I to teach beginners and intermediate learners in assigned sports. You will communicate with groups, tailor development plans, and attend coaches meetings to ensure consistency and safety.

Responsibilities include supervising practice sessions, recording incidents, and maintaining a positive, inclusive environment for children and families. CPR/First Aid certification preferred and background checks required.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 to participate in youth sports programs.
• Experience in coaching or organizing youth sports activities.
• Friendly customer-service demeanor and ability to relate well with people.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Adhere to Health Department and Salvation Army health & safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Teach beginners and intermediate learners in assigned sport.
• Communicate with groups of all sizes with poise and enthusiasm.
• Provide development guidelines following coaches handbook for consistency.
• Attend coaches meetings and trainings in assigned sport.
• Critique participants and provide feedback on performance.
• Create and demonstrate all activities with facilities to proper supervisors.
• Generate legible accident and incident reports and notify supervisors of incidents.
• Display integrity, enthusiasm, and sound moral judgment.
• Follow Salvation Army policies and procedures including Protecting the Mission.
• Provide a safe, fun, and enjoyable learning environment for all participants.
• Maintain open communication with direct supervisor regarding scheduling and coaching.
• Be professional with children, parents, customers, staff, and management.
• Be on time and prepared to teach your class.
• Promote equality and fairness among participants.
• Ensure any changes are communicated to supervisors and participants.
• Perform other duties as assigned for Sports Instructor I.
