Job summary

The Whatcom Family YMCA in Bellingham, WA is seeking a part-time Sports Assistant Coordinator to help create engaging, safe sports experiences for youth and adults. You will work with the Sports Director to plan leagues, camps, and events across multiple sites, while ensuring excellent volunteer support and family engagement.

Ideal candidates bring at least 2 years in sports or recreation programming, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced community

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in sports or recreation programming.
• Experience coaching youth.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Child Abuse Prevention certifications (or ability to obtain prior to working with children).
• Over 21 with a good driving history and legally able to drive in WA.
• Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside the Sports Director to create fun, safe, and memorable sports experiences.
• Coordinate youth and adult leagues, programs, and seasonal camps.
• Support game-day operations, program schedules, and activities.
• Assist with registration records, team rosters, and participation tracking.
• Recruit, train, and support volunteer coaches; build relationships with families and community partners.
• Represent the YMCA at events and promote core YMCA values.
