Job summary

Indian Trails Library District in Wheeling, IL is seeking a part-time Youth Services Assistant who will welcome families, staff the reference desk, and help with programs and outreach. The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service to children and caregivers and requires flexibility for days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree or at least 2 years of relevant experience, strong communication skills, and comfort with MS Office and library

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or minimum 2 years relevant experience.
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Experience working with children.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work independently or in a team.
• Ability to use computers and MS Office products.
• Flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Fluency in a second language is desirable.
• Reliable transportation to arrive on time for scheduled shifts.

Responsibilities

• Greet children, teens and caregivers in the Youth Services area.
• Staff the reference desk and assist members in-person and by phone.
• Provide exceptional customer service to create a welcoming library experience.
• Assist patrons in finding information and materials.
• Help members with e-resources, computers, iPads and other devices.
• Stay informed about children’s literature to offer informed readers’ advisory.
• Assist with programming and outreach as needed.
• Assist in maintaining the collection as required.
• Support Youth Services staff on various projects.
