Job summary

Whelden Memorial Library in West Barnstable is seeking a Youth Services & Library Assistant for 15–19 hours per week. The role includes selecting materials for children and teens, creating inclusive displays, planning programs and building connections with families and schools.

The ideal candidate enjoys youth services, can work independently, and will promote programs using Canva and Google Workspace. Training is provided; extra hours may be available via substitutions and special events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience with children or teens strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Google Workspace, Canva, and social media desirable.
• Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and with a small staff.

Responsibilities

• Select and maintain materials for children’s/YA collections.
• Create thoughtful, accessible displays and plan programs.
• Deliver programs such as storytimes, crafts, workshops, reading clubs.
• Promote youth programs to families, schools, and organizations.
• Assist with circulation, technology and general library needs.
