Job summary

Consumer Direct Care Network (CDCN) in Black River Falls, WI seeks a part-time Direct Care Worker to provide one-on-one supervision and compassionate support for a child with non-verbal communication and seizure disorder in the family home. You will help with safety, routines, and sensory-friendly activities, coordinating closely with caregivers for consistent care.

The role starts Saturday afternoons, with growth toward weekend overnights.

Qualifications

• Must pass caregiver/criminal background check.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Reliable transportation and excellent attendance.
• Experience with non-verbal communication methods or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one supervision while maintaining a safe, supportive environment.
• Support emotional regulation using calm, consistent approaches.
• Monitor for seizure activity and follow established care and safety plans.
• Assist with personal care, including toileting, in a respectful and dignified manner.
• Communicate using the child's preferred non-verbal communication methods and respond to behavioral cues.
• Engage the child in age-appropriate activities that encourage participation, sensory regulation, and enjoyment.
• Follow established routines and collaborate closely with the family to ensure consistent care.

Location

Black River Falls, WI (Family Residence)

Compensation

$17.66/hour or $256/Overnight

Current Schedule

Saturday Afternoons - Up to 5Hr to Start

The goal is for respite care to grow into weekend overnights in the family home, then shifting the 5 original hours to flexible weekday afternoons.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one supervision while maintaining a safe, supportive environment.
• Support emotional regulation using calm, consistent approaches.
• Monitor for seizure activity and follow established care and safety plans.
• Assist with personal care, including toileting, in a respectful and dignified manner.
• Communicate using the child's preferred non-verbal communication methods and respond to behavioral cues.
• Engage the child in age-appropriate activities that encourage participation, sensory regulation, and enjoyment.
• Follow established routines and collaborate closely with the family to ensure consistent care.

Ideal Candidate

• Patient, compassionate, and dependable.
• Calm under pressure and able to respond thoughtfully during challenging behaviors.
• Experience supporting children with autism, developmental disabilities, or sensory processing differences.
• Comfortable supporting a child who is non-verbal and has a seizure disorder.
• Able to balance active engagement with quiet, sensory-friendly activities.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with families.
• Previous respite, caregiving, education, or healthcare experience is preferred but not required.
