Job summary

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Juvenile Correctional Officer in Dalton, GA to ensure a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment for youth in its care. You will model pro-social behaviors, provide guidance, and reinforce positive conduct within facility operations.

Primary duties include supervision, security checks, and movement oversight, with emphasis on rehabilitation and safety in a secure setting.

Qualifications

• Requires High school diploma or GED.
• Must possess and maintain Georgia POST certification within the first six months of employment.
• Agency requirement: Valid Driver License.

Responsibilities

• Maintain custody and safety of youth per DJJ policies and procedures.
• Provide guidance and structure to detained youth to support rehabilitation.
• Conduct security checks, contraband searches, counts, and supervision in housing and classroom areas.
• Maintain order through active supervision and verbal coaching.
• Oversee movement of youth within and between facilities, and during leave.
• Promote adaptive behavior using positive reinforcement and modeling.
• Screen visitors and staff to control access to secure facilities.

Education

High school diploma / GED

State of Georgia POST certification within 6 months
