Job summary

Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is seeking a Certified Recreational Therapist to plan and lead therapeutic recreation activities for children and teens in a residential/psychiatric setting. You will facilitate groups, document progress, and ensure a safe, positive environment across the facility.

The role requires an undergraduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Art Therapy or Music Therapy with CTRS or a license, experience with youth in residential/psychiatric care, CPR

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Art Therapy or Music Therapy with CTRS or licensure.
• Experience with children/adolescents in residential and/or psychiatric settings.
• CPR certification; able to perform CPR when needed.
• Must be able to operate 15-passenger vans; evening/weekend/holiday schedule.

Responsibilities

• Plan goal-oriented therapeutic recreation activities aligning with treatment goals.
• Lead and facilitate groups; document activities and progress.
• Assess motor skills, cognition and social functioning; report findings to treatment team.
• Demonstrate time management, problem solving, and appropriate social skills.
• Maintain professional boundaries; seek supervision when needed.
