About Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach

API Legal Outreach is the largest social justice legal organization focused on the Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, and immigrant communities of the Greater Bay Area and the Central Valley. Founded in 1975, our mission is to provide culturally competent and linguistically appropriate direct services to the most marginalized segments of our community, including low-income women, seniors, immigrants, and youth. Our offices are located in Oakland and San Francisco, with work focused on issues such as Gender-based Violence, Immigration and Immigrant Rights, Disability Rights, Senior Law and Elder Abuse, Anti-Human Trafficking, Youth Violence Prevention, Anti-API Hate Violence, preservation of affordable housing and small businesses, among others.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Youth Program Project Manager, the Youth Project Coordinator will work with the APILO Youth Project and manage the Youth Advisory Council internship. Responsibilities include planning and implementing programs and educational events. This position is primarily based in Oakland, with additional responsibilities in San Francisco. The role requires a strong commitment to social justice and frequent interaction with diverse stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to serving underserved API and BIPOC communities in the Greater Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide community education and outreach on issues such as gender-based violence, domestic violence, and related topics.
  2. Conduct bi-weekly in-person youth meetings on Sundays at Oakland or San Francisco offices.
  3. Collaborate with community partners, schools, law enforcement, and youth-serving agencies.
  4. Provide technical assistance and training to CBOs, public agencies, staff, volunteers, and pro bono panels.
  5. Build and maintain strong relationships with youth members.
  6. Organize and participate in outreach events.
  7. Represent the organization at community meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. At least two years of experience in community organizing and/or social services to youth, especially survivors of interpersonal violence, youth violence, or human trafficking in API, Latinx, or other communities of color.
  2. Commitment to social justice and serving disadvantaged populations.
  3. Ability to work evenings or weekends as needed.
  4. Completion or willingness to complete a 40-hour domestic violence counselor training.
  5. Ability to work well in a multicultural, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Nonprofit Management, or related fields.
  2. Knowledge of racial, sexual, and gender-based issues affecting API and other communities of color in the Bay Area.
  3. Training in trauma-informed case management.
  4. Bilingual/bicultural skills (e.g., Spanish, Cantonese, API languages).
