Job summary

The Ohio School for the Deaf in Columbus seeks a part-time caregiver/support role to supervise students before/after school, support daily living skills, and accompany them to meals and activities. This position requires effective communication with students, staff, and families.

Responsibilities include safety supervision, documentation, behavior support, and light dorm housekeeping. Intermediate SLPI proficiency is required for roles assigned to the school.

Qualifications

• 12 months training or 12 months experience in youth programs, educational support, or childcare.
• Must demonstrate Intermediate level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) for positions assigned to Ohio School for the Deaf.
• Competencies include adaptability, building trust, developing others, establishing relationships, problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Supervises students before and after school hours and during activities; ensures safety in dorms and events.
• Assists with homework, escorts students to classes and meals, and conducts hourly bed checks.
• Provides instruction in daily living skills and organizes recreational activities; maintains monthly recreation calendar.
• Documents daily in IRP reports, logs and checklists; responds to behavior issues with supportive strategies.
• Performs light housekeeping in dorms and guides students in chores.
