Job summary

The Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains is seeking a Lead Youth Development Professional in Yankton, SD. This part-time, non-exempt role will create, lead, and evaluate daily youth programming while ensuring a safe, positive environment.

You will supervise youth directly and coach Youth Development Professionals on the spot. Responsibilities include planning activities, supporting youth behavior, coaching staff, and upholding BGCA values and policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days; in-house training provided.
• Commitment to working four days a week and set class schedules.
• Summer and school-year hours required; YMCA/Club training as applicable.
• Understand and demonstrate behavior management principles.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, implementation, and evaluation of daily programs and events in assigned areas.
• Encourage member engagement, belonging, and healthy peer relationships.
• Maintain active supervision and uphold safety standards and policies.
• Ensure spaces are clean, welcoming, organized, and safe for all members.
• Support youth with behavioral challenges using aligned strategies.
• Provide real-time and follow-up feedback to staff and volunteers.
• Model positive interactions and Club values.
• Maintain open communication with supervisors and staff as needed.
• Facilitate activities that build confidence, leadership, and teamwork.
• Encourage fair play and positive decision-making.
• Complete attendance, incident reports, assessments, and behavior notes.
• Monitor equipment, supplies, and space usage; report needs.
• Attend all required meetings: monthly all-staff, biweekly 1:1s, team meetings.
• Collaborate with supervisor on performance goals and follow-through.
• Provide daily feedback on program successes and opportunities for improvement.
• Implement BGCA’s Five Key Elements for Positive Youth Development.
• Uphold Club values: excellence, impact-driven service, teamwork, good character.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
