Job summary

The Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC) is seeking a Youth Program Coordinator to support after-school programming for Alaska Native youth through year-round activities, hands-on learning, and cultural demonstrations.

This full-time, in-person role requires evening hours, driving youth, coordinating activities, and tracking attendance; successful candidates will have strong organizational skills, basic writing/public speaking, and familiarity with Alaska Native cultures.

Qualifications

  • Must have experience as a coordinator or in a similar role.
  • Able to break down cultural activities into steps for youth to follow.
  • Able to follow written directions.
  • Familiarity with materials used for Alaska Native cultural activities.
  • Have basic writing and public speaking skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel; able to prepare reports.
  • Hands-on experience with educational projects.
  • Solid organizational skills, including multi-tasking and time management.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to operate office equipment including copiers.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to work later hours, typically 11AM-7PM.
  • Must be able to drive youth in a company van.
  • Coordinate project activities, resources, equipment, and information.
  • Work with the project manager to ensure the execution of the project plan.
  • Assist families with necessary applications and forms to participate in programs.
  • Communicate and interact professionally with Alaska Native youth in middle school and high school.
  • Maintain relationships with Anchorage School District, educators, tutors and contractors.
  • Track participation and daily attendance.
  • Design and implement electronic applications and surveys.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports.
  • Occasionally support Cultural Tourism with Alaska Native dance and game demonstrations, Alaska map overviews, cultural presentations, and Village Site tours.
  • Stay on task, take initiative, be proactive, be creative, and problem solve.
