Job summary

City of St Helens is seeking a Youth Program Lead for the After School Program (age 18+). You will lead and supervise youth, plan activities, and support families while maintaining a safe, engaging environment.

The position is part-time seasonal (20 hours/week) with Monday–Thursday shifts and occasional evenings or weekends for family engagement activities. Requires 18+, HS diploma, and background check; CPR/First Aid within 60 days.

Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience working with children ages 5–12 required
  • Leadership, coaching, or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead by example and maintain a positive, professional attitude
  • Ability to manage behaviors, resolve conflicts, and remain calm under pressure
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with participants, families, staff, and community members
  • Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance
  • Must successfully pass a background check through the St. Helens School District
  • Food Handler's Card required within 60 days of hire
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required within 60 days of hire
Job Duties
  • Lead and supervise youth participants in the After School Program
  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and positive experience of all participants
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement activities including games, crafts, homework support, recreation, and enrichment opportunities
  • Track attendance and monitor participant check-in and check-out procedures
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, school staff, and community partners
  • Coach and mentor program staff while modeling appropriate behavior and leadership
  • Assist with program planning, staff meetings, and special events
  • Monitor facility cleanliness, organization, and safety
  • Assist with opening and closing facilities as assigned
  • Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and behavioral concerns
  • Support marketing and promotion of youth recreation programs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Schedule
  • Part-Time Seasonal (20 hours per week)
  • Monday – Thursday 12:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
  • Must be available for occasional special events and recreation programs
  • Must be available to work occasional evenings or weekends for family engagement activities, typically held once per quarter
Rate of Pay
  • $16.45 per hour
