Job summary

City of Burien is seeking enthusiastic, dependable individuals to support after-school programming for elementary and middle school youth. The 2026-2027 school year runs Sept 3, 2026 to approx. June 17.

This temporary, intermittent position offers evening hours 0–19 per week, with shifts Monday-Thursday 2:45–6:15 pm and Friday 1:15–6:15 pm. You will lead safe, fun and educational activities, assist in developing programs, serve as the staff lead at sites, and transport youth using a city van to

We are currently accepting resumes from qualified candidates for our 2026-2027 After-School Programming.The 2026-2027 school year runs from September 3, 2026, to approximately Thursday, June 17. Applications will be reviewed as vacancies occur, and interviews may be conducted throughout the recruitment period.
Schedule
School Year: Intermittent Hours: 0-19 hours per week, depending on programming needs.

Shifts: Monday - Thursday hours are typically 2:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Friday hours are typically 1:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Hours may vary slightly depending on the program needs.
Candidates must be flexible to work on limited days and at limited times to accommodate program needs.

What You\'ll Do

  • Lead safe, fun, and educational programs geared for elementary and middle school youth at designated programming sites with our partner schools
  • Assist in program and activity development
  • Serve as the staff lead for assigned programs at designated programming sites
  • Provides transportation for youth using a city van to different site locations.
Education And/or Experience
  • One year of experience leading or teaching youth programs, with one year of college coursework in Recreation, Education and/or related field or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities that would allow an individual to perform the duties of the position will be considered.
Special Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check
  • Valid Washington State Driver\'s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Valid First Aid and Child and Adult CPR Certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain a public health department food handler\'s permit may be required
This position is a temporary, intermittent, non-benefited position to support after-school programming during the 2026-2027 school year.
