Mission: To restore health and well-being in the Native community by recovering knowledge of and access to healthy Indigenous foods, medicines and lifeways.

Title: Youth Program Associate (Two Positions open) Status: Seasonal FT (40 hrs/wk, Jun-Aug)

Reports to: Youth Program Manager Salary: $21 hourly

Dream of Wild Health (DWH) is celebrating 28 years of working to restore health and wellbeing within the Twin Cities Native American community and has grown to a 30-acre farm in Hugo with an office in Minneapolis.

DWH is seeking two Youth Program Associates to work with the youth program team to ensure implementation and success of summer youth programs. This role directly supports youth development opportunities related to the DWH mission; communicates with youth and families; and occasionally provides youth transportation to and from the farm in Hugo. The ideal candidate has a passion for Native culture and youth leadership development and mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Work effectively with program team to ensure program goals and objectives are achieved
• Support coordination of summer youth programs, including curriculum, forms and reporting, supply and equipment needs, daily schedules and activities, family communications, behavior expectations, and evaluation
• Support lessons and curriculum implementation by building relationships with partner organizations and staff
• Build positive relationships with youth and their families
• Provide guidance to youth participants to become leaders in the community
• Collaborate with the DWH team to enhance youth activities and opportunities
• Assist with meeting preparation, logistics and communications regarding program activities or changes
• Ensure supplies and equipment are stocked, organized and ready for daily program activities
• Help ensure and uplift communication between teams so that youth-safe protocols are met when engaging with youth
• Support program documentation and evaluation needs related to grant reporting needs
• Attend staff trainings, weekly DWH team meetings and regular youth program team meetings
• Fulfill administrative duties associated with the job
• Must be willing to adapt to change, fill in during staff absences and meet DWH needs
• Assist and participate in programming activities and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Two year degree with experience; or equivalent experience preferred
• Knowledge of Native American culture, language, and/or history preferred
• Demonstrated understanding of Native American cultural and community values
• Demonstrated knowledge of youth program coordination
• Ensure that program activities are consistent with mission, cultural values and organic principles
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with staff, youth and families
• Experience working with Native American youth and community

Requirements

• Must pass a background check as this role will interact with youth
• Must have a valid driver’s license with good driving record with ability to transport youth with 15-passenger van
• Ability to work outdoors, stand and sit for long periods of time; ability to lift semi-heavy objects; and flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends
• This position works at the Hugo farm and may include some remote/admin work days
