Job summary

CMHA-CEI seeks a Youth Peer Support Specialist to assist youth with serious emotional disturbances in homes, schools, and communities. You will serve as a member of the treatment team, helping youth engage with services and work toward treatment goals while modeling problem solving and conflict resolution.

You will document activities, maintain records, and collaborate with families and providers to advance the youth’s functioning and community inclusion.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Young adult, 18–26, with lived experience with mental illness/substance use disorders who received mental health services.
• Willing to self-identify as someone in behavioral health treatment and help others.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, youth, families, agencies, and public.
• Ability to cope with stressful situations per agency policies.
• Must obtain Michigan certification as a Peer Specialist within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Act as a support and resource for youth with a serious emotional disturbance.
• Work one-on-one with youth in homes, schools, and community to support treatment goals.
• Support youth engagement in treatment and with treatment providers.
• Document activities timely and maintain accurate records using basic computer software.
• Collaborate with youth, family, and treatment team to fulfill CMHA-CEI’s mission.
