Position: Youth Pastor

Reports To: Senior Pastor

Summary:

To oversee the student ministry of FBC Wortham and to minister to the needs of youth (grades 7-12), leading them to spiritual commitments and disciplines that will result in spiritual maturity.

Duties: YOUTH MINISTRY

1. Must be involved in the lives of the youth—establishing relationships withthem in order to provide opportunities to shepherd and help youth developtheir own relationship with Jesus Christ
2. Prays for the students and their parents
3. Oversees and coordinates the activities of the youth program
4. Provides direction and leadership for the youth education program of the church
5. Develops and implements programs that attract youth to Christ and promotes spiritual growth
6. Plans and coordinates special events (retreats, camps, mission projects and trips, etc.) that touch all youth at various levels of spiritual maturity
7. Develops healthy relationships with parents and guardians of all youth, and counsels with them when needed
8. Develops and administers a program of active outreach to the youth of the community
9. Develops and administers a program for follow-up with youth visitors and their parents
10. Recruits, trains, and supervises adult lay volunteers to assist in the youth ministry
11. Keeps alert as to current trends, resources, conferences, and other youth ministries which might enhance the student ministry at FBC
12. Communicates regularly with the Senior Pastor for goal setting, sharing, evaluation, problem solving and prayer support/mentorship
13. Communicates regularly in the church leadership meeting regarding the needs of people, program purposes and promotion of the Student Ministry

Qualifications:

1. Has a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and has taken the step of believer's baptism
2. Be an active member of FBC Wortham
3. Exhibit strong Christian character that demonstrates a close relationship with God through personal devotional, worship, and prayer life
4. Maintain a Godly character that no reproach may come through him upon the Body of Christ
5. Participates in giving to the church
6. A seminary degree preferred, but not required
7. Some training in youth ministry, or experience in a local church setting.
8. A special concern for youth and their spiritual lives
9. Has a sense of humor, enjoys life and friendships
10. Administration through good planning and delegation with ability to handle paperwork and plan ahead
