Job summary

YMCA of Western North Carolina is seeking a Reach + Rise Group Program Director to oversee the National mentoring program at the Asheville location. Under supervision, you will recruit, train, and match volunteers, ensure curriculum delivery, data collection, and risk management.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in social work or related field with 3+ years of youth program leadership, strong communication, and the ability to collaborate with schools and community partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Youth Development, or a related field required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
• 3+ years of experience in leading youth programs or mentoring, especially if it involved training others or managing volunteers.
• Leadership roles in youth-focused organizations or groups (including informal or community-based settings).
• Experience with vulnerable youth or populations, especially in therapeutic or developmental contexts.
• Certifications in social work, counseling, youth development, or trauma-informed care are considered a strong asset and may help supplement gaps in experience.
• Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling/Psychology preferred. Current enrollment in a Master’s SW or Counseling/Psychology program or related field will be considered based on group facilitation & mentoring experience.

Responsibilities

• Models inclusive behaviors and embraces all dimensions of diversity.
• Attends regular meetings with volunteers, families, and with staff from schools and/or community-based organizations as needed.
• Provides input as to how the mentoring program can better reflect the cultural diversity of the children and families in the respective YMCA regions.
• Attends all required trainings and staff meetings as required by the YMCA of the USA.
• Develops an approved plan for professional development.
• Other duties as specified by the Reach & Rise National Director(s).
• Demonstrates the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
