The role blends technical media skills with youth-development practices, guiding students from concept to completed podcast episode while fostering creativity, collaboration, and confident communication in a safe studio.

Qualifications

  • Experience in youth development, education, or afterschool.
  • Experience in podcasting, audio production, digital media, broadcasting, journalism, communications, or content creation.
  • Experience with the podcast production process (pre-production, recording, editing, post-production).
  • Experience using microphones, audio interfaces, headphones, computers, and recording equipment.
  • Familiarity with audio-editing software (e.g., Adobe Audition, Audacity, GarageBand, Logic Pro, Pro Tools).
  • Ability to teach podcasting concepts in an engaging, age-appropriate manner.
  • Strong communication, storytelling, interviewing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop structured lessons guiding members from concept to completed episode.
  • Ability to manage groups of youth in a safe, creative studio environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with youth.
  • Ability to collaborate with instructors, program staff, and clubhouse leadership.
  • Understanding of digital citizenship, copyright, privacy, consent, and responsible media practices for minors.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in related fields.
  • Professional or independent podcasting experience; portfolio required.
  • Experience teaching podcasting, media production, journalism, or storytelling to youth.
  • Experience developing interview questions, scripts, and episode rundowns.
  • Knowledge of publishing podcasts on digital platforms.
  • Experience with photography, videography, or graphic design is a plus.
  • Knowledge of youth development principles and project-based learning.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily activities of a group of 10-21 boys.
  • Develop and facilitate engaging podcasting programs for BCNY members.
  • Teach fundamentals of podcast production: concept development, storytelling, interviewing, script writing, recording, editing.
  • Guide members through full podcast production from idea to finished episode.
  • Teach topics, show formats, and interview questions.
  • Help members strengthen communication, public speaking, and storytelling skills.
  • Instruct on microphones, audio interfaces, headphones, recording equipment, and software.
  • Provide hands-on training in recording, editing, mixing, and post-production.
