Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Activity Specialist for the Harlem YMCA Afterschool program, part-time. You will deliver age-appropriate instruction, create leadership activities, and support academic and personal growth for school-aged children in a safe, engaging setting.

The role focuses on building leadership, civic engagement, and life skills, while coordinating with staff, parents, and school partners to ensure high-quality program delivery.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• College credits and formal education in a related field are preferred.
• Preference given to experts in the field or those pursuing specialization (e.g., college/grad students).
• Direct experience with children under 13 is required.
• Content expert in the designated subject matter.
• General knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Implement leadership curriculum focused on leadership skills, civic engagement, and social responsibility.
• Lead service learning projects and civic engagement activities.
• Support academic/career transitions and discuss post-secondary options.
• Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment for all participants.
• Maintain safety and positive relationships; coordinate with staff and school partners.
