Job summary

The Harlem YMCA is seeking an Activity Specialist to provide age-appropriate leadership and college-readiness programming for school-age children in the afterschool program. The role focuses on leadership development, civic engagement, and academic support in a safe, engaging environment.

You will collaborate with staff, teachers, and families to promote strong youth development, implement life-skill activities, and support transitions to high school or post-secondary options while upholding

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; college credits preferred.
• Direct experience working with school-age children (under 13).
• Content expertise in designated subject matter and ability to deliver age-appropriate instruction.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; comfort engaging diverse youth and adults.

Responsibilities

• Implement leadership curriculum focused on leadership skills, civic engagement, and social responsibility.
• Lead service learning projects and civic engagement activities aligned with academic objectives.
• Support academic and career transition through guidance on school options and pathways.
• Create an inclusive, welcoming environment and maintain a positive youth-focused atmosphere.
• Ensure health and safety of participants and maintain proper program documentation.
