Job summary

VisionQuest in Maryland is seeking a Cook to prepare nutritious meals for children in our residential care program. You will plan menus, consider dietary restrictions, and work with residential staff to coordinate meal times.

The role requires food safety discipline, ability to maintain clean kitchen areas, manage inventory, and stay within budget while maintaining quality. A GED or HS diploma and a Food Managers certificate are preferred; bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of nutrition principles and dietary guidelines for children.
• Strong culinary skills with attention to menu planning and kitchen hygiene.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Basic computer skills (MS Office, Google Workspace).

Responsibilities

• Meal Planning and Preparation: plan and prepare well-balanced, nutritious meals for children, considering dietary restrictions and cultural preferences.
• Adhere to menus and modify for variety and age groups to ensure balance of protein, carbs, fruits, vegetables, and dairy.
• Maintain food safety: proper handling, storage, and preparation to prevent illnesses; keep kitchen clean and sanitized.
• Monitor temperatures and inventory; manage stock and ordering to maintain adequate levels.
• Collaborate with residential staff to communicate meal schedules and dietary requirements.
• Participate in meetings and training on residents' dietary needs.
