Job summary

YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHEAST VENT is seeking a Youth Instructor to plan, implement, and supervise engaging youth activities and programs that foster growth and learning. Qualifications

• Minimum age 18.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of basic child supervision techniques.
• 6 months experience working with children.
• Basic staff supervision and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of children and parents.
• All required online training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
• Criminal record clearance.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead youth enrichment classes.
• Create and administer program-specific skills per class description or curriculum.
• Use positive behavior management with children.
• Interact with and encourage children during class.
• Demonstrate proper form to correct activities.
• Encourage member involvement and recruit potential volunteers.
• Respond to member inquiries promptly and courteously.
• Provide feedback to parents/school personnel about participation and behavior.
• Set up and monitor class equipment and report repairs.
• Maintain close supervision of children at all times.
• Advise participants on procedures and policies as appropriate.
• Distribute handouts and class evaluations and answer questions.
• Maintain attendance and progress records.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Uphold YMCA safety, supervision, reporting, and risk management policies.
• Participate in the YMCA Annual Campaign.
• Perform other duties as requested.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Youth Instructor's plan, implement, and supervise engaging activities and programs designed to foster personal growth, learning, and development in children and adolescents. They will maintain supportive and positive atmospheres that welcome and respect all individuals as well as relate to students, parents, and staff in a positive and professional manner at all times.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• 1. Plan and lead youth enrichment classes.
• 2. Responsible for creating and administering program-specific skills according to the age appropriate class description and/or curriculum.
• 3. Help children manage behavior using a positive approach, including redirection and using constructive discipline with natural and logical consequences.
• 4. Interact, initiate and encourage the children in the activities during class.
• 5. Address children who are not performing exercises/activities correctly by demonstrating proper form techniques.
• 6. Encourage member involvement with children, parents and/or school as well as identify potential volunteers.
• 7. Respond promptly and courteously to all member inquiries/needs.
• 8. Provide feedback to parents and/or school personnel regarding their child/children's participation and behavior in the program.
• 9. Set up and monitor class equipment, ensuring equipment remains in working condition. Report all equipment repair needs to supervisor immediately.
• 10. Maintain close supervision of children at all times, ensuring children are directly supervised at all times.
• 11. Advise participants on program and class procedures and policies, as appropriate.
• 12. Distribute handouts and/or class evaluations, if appropriate, and answer questions from participants after each session.
• 13. Maintains records as required (attendance, assessments, progress reports).
• 14. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
• 15. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.

• 17. Performs other job-related duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1. Minimum of 18 years of age.
• 2. Child & Infant CPR and First Aid certification.
