Job summary

The First Tee Golf Instructor at YMCA of South Hampton Roads is responsible for teaching golf fundamentals, life skills, and the nine First Tee values to youth, teens, and families, according to The First Tee guidelines.

You will model character and lead by example in class, on the course, and at our Learning Facilities, while assisting in developing new youth programs and guiding students and parents. You will promote the YMCA’s mission and ensure safety and order in all instructional areas.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old with prior employment experience.
• Experience teaching golf fundamentals, etiquette, and procedures to youth.
• Effective communication skills for youth and teens.
• Experience teaching in group and individual settings.
• Flexible schedule for various class times (days and evenings).
• Passion for golf and interaction with youth and teens.

Responsibilities

• Set an example for all golfers to follow in class, on the course, and in facilities.
• Set up and break down instructional areas.
• Maintain neatness, order, and safety in instructional areas.
• Maintain golf equipment in good working condition.
• Teach golf fundamentals and life skills per The First Tee guidelines to youth, teens and adults.
• Monitor progress of each child across instruction phases and activities.
• Assist in developing new programs for youth at The First Tee.
• Guide and answer questions for students and parents related to The First Tee programs.
• Promote The First Tee of Hampton Roads and YMCA mission.
• Adhere to policies and procedures of The First Tee and YMCA.
• Report to the Director of Golf and assist with other duties as agreed.
• Demonstrate patience and flexibility; prepare thoroughly and arrive punctually.
