Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Lieutenant to assist in strategic planning of facility operations and ensure safety and compliance for youth and staff. You will supervise security staff, respond to emergencies, and maintain communications to support a rehabilitative environment.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma with relevant experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute, and you must obtain CLEE certification within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma minimum with relevant experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.
• State minimum requirements include 21+ age, valid driver's license, and 3 years in correctional/security/military/police work with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
• Must complete DJJ training courses and obtain CLEE certification within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Engages with youth to ensure safety, security, rehabilitation and well‑being.
• Maintains frequent and helpful communication with youth.
• Responds physically to emergencies and conducts security inspections.
• Supervises and mentors security staff in a secure facility environment.
• Completes required incident reports and participates in shift briefings and daily operations.
