Job summary

South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) seeks a Lieutenant to assist in planning and implementing facility operations while ensuring compliance with policy and law. The role supports safe, secure rehabilitative opportunities for youth under a positive youth development framework.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for required experience.
• Experience in correctional, security, military, or police work with supervisory responsibilities.
• CLEE certification within six months of employment and competency exams are required.

Responsibilities

• Engage with youth daily to ensure safety, security, rehabilitation, and well being.
• Coordinate with youth and staff through daily communications and briefings.
• Respond to emergencies and perform security inspections/unannounced frisk searches as needed.
• Monitor units for safety, sanitation, and maintenance compliance.
• Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate security staff.
