Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice seeks an Operational Support Sergeant to coordinate crucial security functions within a youth facility, including key and tool control, inspections, and emergency drills. You will support day-to-day operations while promoting accountability, professionalism, and positive youth development.

Under the Administrative Captain's supervision, you will supervise movements of youth, assist with staffing, and participate in special security operations

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• CLEE certification within 6 months of employment.
• Competency exam with 80% passing score.
• Knowledge of state laws and youth protection rules.
• Experience supervising youth and maintaining discipline.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate state vehicle.
• 21+ years old with appropriate education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee facility key control and tool control programs for security.
• Maintain inventories, audits, and investigate discrepancies.
• Plan inspections, searches, and contraband interdiction activities.
• Develop and evaluate emergency drills and preparedness actions.
• Ensure staff readiness to respond during emergencies.
• Supervise safe movement of youth inside and outside the facility.
• Provide supplemental support to operations during shortages or incidents.
• Perform other duties to support the agency’s mission.
