Job summary

State of Missouri's Division of Youth Services seeks an Education Specialist to develop curriculum and lesson plans for youth in day treatment and residential programs. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or related field with a valid teaching certificate.
  • Or Bachelor's degree plus ability to obtain teaching certificate within nine months of employment.
  • Four+ years of post-baccalaureate special education teaching experience in a school accredited by a governing agency with a valid special education certificate.
  • Master's degree plus two+ years of post-baccalaureate special education teaching experience with a valid certificate.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Accreditation/licensure required by state law.

Responsibilities

  • Implement group and individual education plans; plan class work and prepare learning materials.
  • Work as part of a teaching team; assist in developing and evaluating IEPs; communicate with parents and students.
  • Adhere to state and federal testing guidelines and mandates.
  • Prepare reports on each client’s adjustment and progress; maintain scholastic and attendance records.
  • Administer and score pre/post tests.
  • Provide Awareness Supervision to youth, safeguarding their safety and conduct.
  • Maintain security and participate in physical restraints during emergencies or altercations as needed.
  • Dispense medications to youth.
  • Role-model appropriate behaviors.
  • Transport and escort youth in everyday and emergency situations.
