Job summary

One Family Illinois in Chicago is seeking an Educational Support Specialist to develop age-appropriate programming for youth in care across the Safe Haven and Sibling Foster Care programs.

You'll collaborate with Professional Foster Parents, Directors, teachers, and community partners to enhance educational and social outcomes, coordinate enrichment activities, monitor progress, and manage department budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, or related field.
• Two years of related experience providing services to youth with behavioral, educational, and/or emotional challenges.
• Foster Care experience, SACWIS user and CWEL preferred.
• Ability to pass DCFS required criminal background check including CANTS/LEADS and SORS.
• Valid Illinois driver’s license with acceptable driving record; insured and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to travel within the community and to agency sites.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
• Sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and staff.
• Ability to relate to Agency staff and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Works with the children in the Safe Haven Program and Sibling Foster Care Program to develop age-appropriate programming.
• Collaborates with foster parents, program directors, and departments regarding client needs and service availability.
• Grows and maintains relationships with local schools and community partners.
• Monitors progress reports and report cards; assists in pairing youth with educational assistance.
• Communicates with teachers, school counselors, and principals to support education, emotional, and social needs.
• Develops community partnerships for purchasing, programming, and networking.
• Identifies community programs for enrichment, life skills, arts, and donor activities.
• Develops and oversees enrichment programs including after-school and summer activities.
• Assists in transitioning youth between programs by providing opportunities and resources.
• Coordinates special events at the Villages and develops department budgets.
• Works with foster and biological parents to link to resources.
• Maintains tracking systems and provides reports; evaluates program effectiveness.
• Additional duties as assigned.
