Youth Economic Mobility & Career Pathways VISTA

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County's Mayor's Office is working to address poverty and economic insecurity by strengthening pathways to education, employment, and long-term financial stability for low-income residents. Young people may face barriers to career awareness, educational opportunities, and access to information about growing industries and potential career pathways. Early exposure to educational and employment options can help young people make informed decisions about their futures and prepare for economic independence.The Youth Economic Mobility & Career Pathways VISTA will strengthen the Mayor's Office's capacity to develop sustainable youth engagement resources and career exploration strategies. The member will support the development of educational materials, youth outreach tools, and engagement frameworks that help schools, community organizations, employers, and other partners introduce young people to career opportunities. Activities may include developing a prototype for interactive or gamified learning, creating reusable youth engagement materials, and identifying opportunities to connect youth with healthcare career pathways and other employment sectors relevant to the community.The VISTA will also develop tools and processes that help staff coordinate partnerships, document available opportunities, and plan future youth engagement activities. These resources will support consistent outreach and provide a foundation for evaluating participation and identifying opportunities for improvement. By establishing reusable materials, partnership frameworks, and sustainable engagement strategies, the VISTA will help the Mayor's Office and its partners expand awareness of educational and career opportunities and strengthen long-term pathways to economic mobility for low-income Wyandotte County residents.

Member Duties :

The VISTA will develop reusable educational materials, youth engagement resources, and career exploration tools that help expand awareness of educational and employment opportunities among low-income Wyandotte County youth. The member will identify potential school, employer, and community partnerships; develop frameworks for coordinating youth engagement activities; and create tools to organize information about career pathways and related opportunities. The VISTA will also establish processes for documenting available resources, tracking partnership development, and evaluating engagement efforts. These deliverables will strengthen the Mayor's Office's capacity to coordinate youth economic mobility initiatives and sustain partnerships that help young people prepare for future education and employment.
