Job summary

Boys & Girls Club of Maury County in Tennessee is hiring part-time youth program staff to execute hands-on programs for K‑12 students, aligned with three outcomes: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship. You will prepare youth for success and run engaging activities under direction.

Responsibilities include reading lesson plans, maintaining safe spaces, building positive relationships, supervising groups, and participating in special programs.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma.
  • Some experience working with children is required.
  • Experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization preferred.
  • Relate to young people and manage a classroom while keeping activities fun.
  • Teamwork, patience, and creativity are essential.
  • Reliable and punctual; show up on time and give full attention.

Responsibilities

  • Execute hands-on programs with youth across Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship.
  • Prepare youth for success and implement lesson plans under guidance.
  • Lead and supervise activities, ensuring safety and positive behavior.
  • Read lesson plans, lay out materials, and prepare day-to-day activities.
  • Maintain safe, clean program areas and record attendance.
  • Oversee special programs/events and participate in other club activities as needed.

Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
  • Responsible for executing hands-on programs with youth focused on achieving 3 priority outcomes: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship. Positions are available for all age groups, K-12th graders.
  • Prepare Youth for Success
  • Execute Club programs and activities that support Youth Development Outcomes, under the guidance of the Unit Director and Program Outcomes Directors
  • Facilitate fun and educational activities with kids, staying consistent with organizational goals and mission.
  • Read lesson plans, lay out materials in advance, and perform other tasks to prepare for day-to-day program activities.
  • Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
  • Maintain control of the group. Demonstrate leadership to ensure proper conduct, safety, and
    development of members. Implement discipline procedures when needed in accordance with the organization's discipline policy.
  • Form positive relationships with youth. Mentor, coach, and encourage them to believe in themselves and their dreams. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate conduct at all times.
  • Keep members safe by following and enforcing all child safety policies and procedures in effect at your Club site.
  • Facility Maintenance
  • Ensure program areas are clean, safe, well ventilated and well-lit.
  • Make sure Club equipment is maintained in good working condition.
  • Clean your area at the end of each day.
  • Record Keeping
  • Take accurate attendance for each activity.
  • Turn in timesheets and other required paperwork on time

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards
    Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other club activities as necessary.
  • May be required to drive Club van or authorized automobile periodically.
  • May consult with parents concerning member and Club issues
  • Must work with predetermined group partner and be able to work as a team player with all peers.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
  • High School diploma
  • Some experience working with children is required. Previous experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities with groups of young people is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to relate to young people and control a classroom, while also making sure activities are FUN for the youth.
  • Teamwork skills, patience, and creativity are a must.
  • Must be reliable and punctual-kids will be counting on you! Must show up on time and be ready to give them your full attention.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 25 per week

Summer Hours: 25 or more
