Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem NH is seeking a Youth Development Professional to supervise youth aged 6–18 and help deliver daily programs in a dynamic programming department in Salem, NH.

Responsibilities

  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Be punctual and dependable, adapting to schedule changes.

TITLE: Youth Development Professional

DEPARTMENT: Programming

REPORTSTO: Director of Programming or Teen Center Director

FLSA Hourly

TheRole ofthe Youth Development Professional

Working under the direction of the Program Director or the Teen Center Director, the Youth Development Professional is responsible for daily supervision members (diverse youths ages 6-18) participating in BGCGS’s various programs.

Youth Development Professionals (YDPs) are responsible for supervising and delivering daily programs, services, and activities while building positive and productive relationships with Club members. The role aligns with the organization’s youth development mission and goals and ensures the quality and effectiveness of these programs. YDPs are usually assigned to a single department to build positive and productive relationships with Club members.

Coordinate and oversee daily & weekly activities for youth creating a fun,exciting place for youth tolearn.

Aid in the development, planning and implementation of theme daysand Special Eventactivities.

Ensure that all programs and activities are organized and conducted in a safe and professional manner and are reflective of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem philosophies and expectations.

Comply with rules and regulations of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem NH.

Establish communication links between members, parents and Program Director.

Develop a variety of new, fun and exciting activities for youth each week.

Gain an overall knowledge of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem NH programs in order to adequately fill in during other staff absences.

Assist with the implementation and enforcement of discipline and safety policies/procedures regarding participant safety, risk-management and building security.

Attend all staff meeting and trainings when requested.

Be prompt when arriving to work and communicate with Program Director when tardy or absent.

Provide support to youth and families at all times.

Adapt to changes in schedule and weather.

Maintain a clean and safe setting.

Other tasks as assigned.

Qualification requirements:

  • Enrolled in high school or have already earned GED or high school diploma
  • Complete all trainings set forth by supervisors

Take initiative to get things done

Must have a current CPR and First Aid card or be willing to acquire one.

Strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to build rapport with others

Excellent oral and written communications skills

Ability and aptitude to make correct decisions within established policies and a commitment to adhere to the BGCGS mission and goals

Preferred qualifications

  • Staff 18+ years old – College degree or enrollment in college

Minimum of 1 year of youth development work experience, including developing youth and managing behavior problems

Experience motivating youth

Prior experience leading large groups of youths

Proven ability to respond with calmness and use good judgement in crisis situations

Ability to participate in strenuous physical programs with a high level of energy and enthusiasm

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing requirements of this job, employee is frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Must be willing and able to do all activities throughout the day, participation is required in 75% of all activities.
