Job summary

Career Systems Development Corporation in Ottumwa, IA, seeks a dedicated youth-services professional to support at-risk students in the Job Corps program. You will mentor, supervise, and guide students aged 16-24, while assisting in daily safety checks and center activities to foster growth and responsibility.

The role emphasizes supervision, group discussions, and informal counseling on stress and home situations; a high school diploma is required, with one year of related experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: At least one year of experience in education or a similar field, working with students.
• Knowledge: Knowledge of methods needed to instill appropriate behavior and study habits; CPR & 1st aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Assists students in adjusting to Center life by providing supervision, behavior modification, and mentoring.
• Conducts daily safety inspections of assigned area and reports/document all Facility or Safety issues.
• Provides daily supervision or assistance in monitoring students in personal hygiene, room/chore assignments, recreations activities, cafeteria monitoring, transportation and programmed activities.
• Ensures that Student Wake up procedures are followed, and MAC is signed by each present student.
• Maintains bulletin boards in assigned area with updated student and center information.
• Organizes, conducts and directs recreation/non-vocational activities.
• Facilitates small group discussions in Life Skills, peer mediation, conflict resolution, etc.
• Provides informal counseling in relation to stress management, personal problems, emergencies, or home situations, etc.
