Job summary

The Youth Development Professional at Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia is responsible for planning, preparing, and implementing developmentally appropriate programs for youth ages 5–18, with a focus on safety and positive relationships.

The role reports to the Unit Director and requires hands-on supervision, program delivery indoors and outdoors, and adherence to club policies to create an inclusive, healthy environment.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create an environment that facilitates outcomes in health, leadership, academics, and life readiness.
• Actively facilitate programs and activities for 15+ youth ages 5–18 indoors and outdoors.
• Implement Weikart strategies into program service delivery.
• Provide supervision with vigilance of youth, equipment, and supplies.
• Set clear boundaries and enforce Club rules while remaining inclusive.
• Ensure safety precautions are followed and equipment is maintained.
• Monitor safety and behavior of youth members continually.
• Report concerns to the Unit Director or Lead Program Coordinator.
• Maintain positive relationships with youth and guardians.
• Mediate mild to medium behavioral issues with guidance.
• Participate in special programs and events as requested.
• Oversee cleanup and ensure a safe area after snacks/meals.
• Engage in regular professional development as required.
• Support a human-centered organizational culture.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
