Job summary

Virginia Tech in Virginia will hire a 4-H Youth Development Agent located in York County Unit Office to lead local 4-H programs and manage daily operations. The role focuses on delivering research-based, hands-on education to youth and adults involved with them.

The candidate will need a Bachelor’s degree (and a Master’s by year six), strong communication skills, program development experience, and willingness to travel for in-person leadership and partnership-building. Exempt position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university.
• Master’s degree preferred; promotion to Extension Agent required no later than six years of employment.
• Experience in planning, conducting, and evaluating Extension or non-formal education programs.
• Ability to travel to provide in-person leadership and to build community partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Identifies, assesses, and prioritizes needs for the development of objective, research-based educational programs for urban, new, and nontraditional audiences with a focus on 4-H Youth Development.
• Provides leadership for 4-H Youth Development programs and manages day-to-day operations.
• Recruits, trains, supports, and manages volunteers to implement programming.
• Determines local program needs by monitoring trends and conducting local assessments with the ELC and other leadership committees.
• Networks and builds coalitions with other agencies to address youth and family needs and to expand program participation.
• Coordinates day-to-day activities and events for the unit 4-H program including clubs, school enrichment, after-school, and camping.
