Job summary

The City of New York, through the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), seeks a Youth Development Specialist to guide and supervise youth in residential and community settings, promoting pro-social learning and safe, structured activities. You will work under supervision during assigned tours to support education, health, and behavioral goals.

Applicants must meet the civil service minimums, including a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience with youth;

Qualifications

• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one of the following: a year of direct work with juveniles or young adults in detention/education/rehabilitation or related fields; or one year in security/public safety in education, detention, or youth services; or one year in health/human services such as counseling, social work, or coaching.
• License/driver requirements may apply for certain positions; residency not required in NYC.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and support youth in activities including school, meals, recreation, and visits.
• Mentor youth individually and in groups, using behavior management to guide positive change.
• Address conflicts with de-escalation techniques and provide crisis intervention when needed.
• Complete required reports on attendance, incidents and behavior observations; participate in admissions and orientation.
