Job summary

Greater Joliet Area YMCA in Shorewood, IL is seeking a part-time Dance Instructor to teach youth aged 24 months through 17 years in a safe, supportive environment. You will set up and break down equipment and deliver engaging dance lessons.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, prior experience with children, and CPR/First Aid/AED plus Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire. Must be at least 16 years old.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
• Previous experience working with children.
• Must be a certified instructor or have a minimum 2 years of previous instruction or 3 years of dance lesson experience.
• At least 16 years of age.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
• Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides dance instruction to children teaching dance techniques.
• Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
• Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
• Conveys information on dance programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
• Organizes, sets up and puts away needed class equipment.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
• Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
