Job summary

The Greater Joliet Area YMCA is seeking a part-time Dance Instructor to teach youth ages 2-17 in Joliet, IL. You will guide basic dance techniques, ensure a safe and positive environment, and handle setup and breakdown of equipment.

Responsibilities include planning culturally relevant activities, communicating with parents, and adhering to YMCA safety and program standards. Candidates should have prior experience with children, a high school diploma or equivalent, and related dance instruction

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
• Prior experience working with children.
• Certified instructor or 2+ years of previous instruction or 3+ years of dance lesson experience.
• Must be at least 16 years old.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

• Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
• Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
• Conveys information on dance programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
• Organizes, sets up and puts away needed class equipment.
• Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff within the YMCA Guidelines.
• Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, communication with program participants, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide instruction to youth ages 2 -17 years old teaching basic dance techniques. Assure that the environment and instruction is safe at all times for participants. Responsible for setup and breakdown of program equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper dance techniques.
• Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
