Job summary

Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice in Savannah, GA is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Sergeant to oversee custody, security and care for youth in our facilities. You will supervise officers, enforce procedures, and support rehabilitation through structured programs and pro-social modeling.

The role requires strong leadership, adherence to policy, and the ability to coordinate with shift supervisors. A high school diploma/GED, POST certification, and a valid driver's license are required,

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; six (6) months of experience as Juvenile Correctional Officer 3 or equivalent.
• Must complete Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within six months of employment.
• Must possess and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S.T. certification within six months of employment.
• Must have valid Driver License.

Responsibilities

• Custody, security, and care of youth per DJJ policies and procedures.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure for detained youth focused on safety and rehabilitation.
• Complete administrative paperwork and maintain records.
• Inspect and maintain security equipment to support safety of youths in facilities.
• Maintain order by intervening with youth behavior and enforcing rules.
• Support in training and orienting subordinate staff.
• Review youth information to identify issues needing special attention.
• Oversee officer activities to ensure custody and welfare of youth.
• Position may serve as Shift Supervisor in the absence of the Lieutenant.
