Job summary

Abraxas Youth and Family Services in Morgantown, PA seeks a Youth Care Worker to supervise juvenile males in programming, ensure safety, and support their growth. Paid training is provided, and weekend availability is required to meet program needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Candidates with relevant experience are preferred.
• Must pass federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including drug related offenses, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and misdemeanors.
• Must be 21+ years of age and have a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily activities of juvenile males in programming with behavioral management principles.
• Exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.
• Ensure safety and security during activities and supervise clients.
• Maintain client confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Complete intakes and screen clients per program policy.
• Respond to emergencies including evacuation, CPR, and first aid.

What You’ll Do

As a Youth Care Worker, you will direct the daily activities of juvenile males in programming utilizing acceptable behavioral management principles. Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Interacts with and supervises clients during daily activities in a manner that ensures their safety and security
• Maintains regular communication with supervisors and co-workers
• Provides effective facility security including conducting headcounts, room checks and observing client movement
• Observes client behavior and intervene appropriately
• Processes intakes and screens clients according to program policy
• Observes activities and responds accordingly including emergency situations including evacuation, CPR, or first aid.
• Provides effective facility security including conducting headcounts, room checks and observing client movement

• Maintains client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and agency policies.
• Follows all Pennsylvania mandated reporter requirements
• Maintains active certification, clearances, and required ongoing training
• Complies with program/facility safety systems and building security
• Adheres to departmental policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance with current departmental practices
• Supports the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care
• Demonstrates appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Candidates with relevant experience are preferred.

Other Qualifications:

• At least twenty-one (21) years of age
• Must have a valid Driver's License
• Physical exams include TB and drug testing.
• Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
• Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Schedule

Must be available to work weekends!

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and remain active and engaged throughout an 8-hour residential shift
• Ability to work in a secure, controlled-access residential facility environment
• Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to safety emergencies
