Job summary

Abraxas Youth and Family Services is seeking a Youth Care Worker for a swing shift in Canon City, CO. The role involves directing the daily activities of adolescent males in a structured program and applying behavioral management principles.

The position requires independence in crisis situations, supervision and role modeling, and coordination with the educational team and Mental Health Therapist to implement individualized treatment plans.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and two years of human service experience or 60 college credit hours.

Responsibilities

• Direct the daily activities of adolescent males in programming using behavioral management principles.
• Exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.
• Provide supervision, leadership, and serve as a role model to clients in a therapeutic manner.
• Observe client behavior and intervene per policy and treatment plans.
• Document client interventions, behavior, and progress; report significant changes to appropriate personnel.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will direct the daily activities of adolescent males in programming utilizing acceptable behavioral management principles. Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.

• Provides direct supervision, leadership, and serve as a role model to clients while interacting in a therapeutic and meaningful manner.
• Observes client behavior and intervenes appropriately, as dictated by policy and individual client treatment plan.
• Documents client treatment interventions, behavior, and progress.
• Reports significant client changes in behavior, attitude, and/or physical condition to appropriate personnel while consistently evaluating client behavioral and emotional issues.
• Collaborates with the educational team and client’s Mental Health Therapist to implement the individualized treatment plan.
• Implements the daily activity schedule and structure and coordinate client activities, such as Family Night, Structured Recreation, etc.
• Facilitates and documents various psycho-educational groups via standardized curricula.
• Conducts scheduled and random head counts to provide effective people security.
• Conducts outside building security checks when working on overnight shift.
• Completes security calls to Night Supervisor when working on overnight shift.
• Supports the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care.
• Demonstrates appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and TWO-years human service experience OR 60 college credit hours.

Other Qualifications

• At least twenty-one (21) years of age
• Must have a valid Driver's License
• Physical exams that include TB and drug testing.
• Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
• Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.
