Job summary

Abraxas Youth & Family Services is hiring an Youth Care Worker to guide the daily activities of adolescent males in structured programming using approved behavioral management techniques. No experience required for many positions; paid training provided.

The role offers part-time hours with potential voluntary overtime opportunities and DailyPay; join a team focused on meaningful work, growth, and helping others achieve their goals.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; option with 60 college credits or 2 years human service experience.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must pass physical and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision, leadership, and serves as a role model to clients while interacting in a therapeutic and meaningful manner.
  • Observes client behavior and intervenes as dictated by policy and treatment plan.
  • Documents client treatment interventions, behavior, and progress.
  • Reports significant client changes to appropriate personnel while evaluating issues.
  • Collaborates with educational team and Mental Health Therapist to implement treatment plan.
  • Implements daily activity schedule and coordinates client activities.
  • Facilitates psycho-educational groups via curricula.
  • Conducts head counts and security checks during overnight shifts.
  • Coordinates security calls to Night Supervisor when overnight shift.
  • Supports philosophy and Seven Key Principles of care.
  • Demonstrates Safe Crisis Management techniques.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will direct the daily activities of adolescent males in programming utilizing acceptable behavioral management principles. Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment in crisis situations.

Your responsibilities may includes:
  • Provides direct supervision, leadership, and serve as a role model to clients while interacting in a therapeutic and meaningful manner.
  • Observes client behavior and intervenes appropriately, as dictated by policy and individual client treatment plan.
  • Documents client treatment interventions, behavior, and progress.
  • Reports significant client changes in behavior, attitude, and/or physical condition to appropriate personnel while consistently evaluating client behavioral and emotional issues.
  • Collaborates with the educational team and client’s Mental Health Therapist to implement the individualized treatment plan.
  • Implements the daily activity schedule and structure and coordinate client activities, such as Family Night, Structured Recreation, etc.
  • Facilitates and documents various psycho-educational groups via standardized curricula.
  • Conducts scheduled and random head counts to provide effective people security.
  • Conducts outside building security checks when working on overnight shift.
  • Completes security calls to Night Supervisor when working on overnight shift.
  • Supports the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skills
