Job summary

Genesee County Juvenile Justice Center in Michigan is seeking staff to supervise and guide neglected and delinquent youths residing at the facility. You will process admissions/releases and work under a supervisor.

The role includes duties such as supervising groups, conducting routine discipline, assisting with daily resident needs, and maintaining safety. Requires compliance with physical restraint training and a valid Michigan driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications require sixty (60) semester hours of college.
• Alternatively thirty (30) semester hours of college plus one year of experience in a youth care or correctional facility.
• Or a high school diploma or equivalent plus two years' experience in a youth care or correctional facility.

Responsibilities

• Supervises resident groups and individuals to ensure health, safety and security.
• Participates in team discussions and decisions related to client care.
• Admits residents and orients them to rules and routines.
• Disciplines residents using prescribed procedures.
• Instructs residents in personal hygiene, dress and grooming.
• Escorts residents to meals, school and events.
• Maintains a safe environment using security systems.
• Assists in facilitating resident group meetings.
• Supervises recreational activities and observes for illness or distress.
• Assists in searches for escapees/runaways; may restrain residents to prevent escapes.
• Uses computer/word processing for records and reports; administers medicine as instructed.
• Performs clerical duties; serves meals and snacks as required.

Education

60 semester hours of college

30 semester hours of college -AND- one year experience in a facility or institution that cares for youth or in a correctional facility

High school diploma or equivalent -AND- two years' experience in a facility or institution that cares for youth or in a correctional facility
