Job summary

Merrimack Valley YMCA in Methuen, MA is seeking an entry-level Referee/Coach to officiate youth basketball games under the supervision of the Sports Director. This part-time role requires commitment to a set schedule and the ability to maintain a safe, fun environment for young participants.

The position emphasizes enforcement of game rules, positive coaching, and role-model behavior. CPR/First Aid certification and strong communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Maintain current CPR certification and First Aid throughout employment.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must possess and utilize excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills.
• Demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Must have good human relations and communication with staff, volunteers, parents, members and participants.
• Remain flexible for YMCA trainings and staff meetings.

Responsibilities

• Officiate youth basketball games and enforce rules.
• Provide energizing, safe, and educational sessions with positive feedback and coaching.
• Prioritize safety at all times.
• Attend set session schedules and be available as needed.
• Assist Director in maintaining an orderly and fun atmosphere for games.
• Wear a staff shirt during assigned games.
• Serve as a role model for participants.
• Uphold the YMCA four core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
